There’s something about the ocean- the waves crashing on the shore, the salt in the air, and the endless coastline that stretches into a beautiful blur. When you add this all with the magic of West Bengal’s eastern coastline, New Digha comes forth as the best vacation spot. Whether it is just a weekend trip in Digha or a peaceful retreat, you would need the best hotel to make your stay a lot more relaxing.
Recently, I had the chance to visit New Digha and what an experience it was! Booked into a room at Hotel Sonajhuri, I heard it is one of the great hotels at New Digha. And it might be true. The hotel is near to all the tourist attractions that are Jagannath Dham Temple, Chandaneswar Temple, Digha Science City, Amrabati Park, etc. The hotel is also near Digha’s sister beaches such as Tajpur, Udaipur, etc. But as we all know there is a perfect time for everything, so is it to visit New Digha.

Understanding the Seasons in New Digha
New Digha is situated in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. It enjoys tropical weather, therefore, there are three primary seasons in New Digha.
- Winter (October to February)
It is recommended to visit New Digha in the winter season due to its beautiful weather. This is the time when Digha blooms. The sky is clear, the sun is not too bright and the breeze has a cold chill to it. The weather is great for outdoor activities without worrying of getting dehydrated or burned. During my winter visit, I lazed around the beach for the whole day but was not at all uncomfortable due to the sweat and humidity.
The temperature in Digha during winter is around 14°C to 26°C. The mornings are chilly, afternoons are cozy and the evenings are cool. Activities such as boating, sightseeing, seafood explorations are in hype. The local sea food markets are full with seasonal catches.
The season is popular among tourists but is not really crowded unless there is any occasion.
- Summer (March to June)
The off-season visit to Digha is a good idea for budget friendly visitors. The summer in Digha gets hot and humid. Hotel Sonajhuri’s AC service really helped me when I once visited during the heated month of April. After an exhausting afternoon, it starts to cool down during the evening. The fresh cold breeze by the beach makes it a perfect time to visit the shoreline.
The temperature can rise from 28°C to 40°C in Digha during summer. The beach time is limited to morning and evening due to the sticky heat during the day. The tourist crowd is comparatively lower and that means lower hotel rates. Early March can still offer comfortable weather and less crowds.
- Monsoon (July to September)
Digha in the monsoon is quite romantic but unpredictable. It is a perfect time for nature lovers to visit Digha due to its flourishing lush greeneries. The landscape provides a perfect dramatic vibe with its brooding sky, wet sand and frothy waves.
The temperature can be between 24°C to 32°C. Heavy rainfalls and high tide can limit the sea activities but it is a great time for being cozy and enjoying the cinematic scenery of Digha. The crowd is less during heavy rainfall areas.
